The Yacht

Brief: The owner, a family man in his forties, needed to replace the sound system on his ocean-going sailing yacht and install a surround sound movie system. We needed to specify deck speakers of exact size and depth to fit the holes in the bulkheads – speakers, kill switches and volume controls needed to be completely waterproof and the sound had to be top quality. The boat was in St. Maarten in the West Indies.

Result: We rendezvoused with S/Y Yacana in the British Virgin Islands whilst she was between charters. A full electrical survey and wiring specification was carried out for the install. The equipment went on board in Majorca and installation was completed in time for the family to embark on their sailing holiday. All cabling was done to meet upcoming changes in BS maritime specification. A new captain came aboard shortly after the install and called us to report that an electrical malfunction had wiped out many of his systems including the newly commissioned DVD machine. We were able to send a new unit to meet the boat in Sicily, go through the set up procedure via satellite phone, and take away the faulty unit. Smooth sailing resumed, no extra costs incurred, and job complete on time and within budget.
